Here at Amok things have started to get crazy busy. All the projects that were on hold during lockdown are now happening and it feels fantastic to get building again. One thing that is proving popular right now are home extensions.
We have quite a few garden rooms currently on the drawing board and on site.
The pressure on space has got a lot of people thinking about how to extend their home or make better use of the space they have. Garden rooms are brilliantly versatile and work well as a home office / teenagers hangout room and occasional guest accommodation.

There are conditions over the closeness to the boundary, height of the garden room and a maximum internal floor area to conform to building regulations and lawful development guidelines. It is possible to get a fair sized studio room and shower room and a garden store within the guidelines but if you want a large main room and a kitchen then planning permission will be required.
Kitchen extensions are also really popular as we are all currently dining at home all week. If you have a terraced or semi-detached house then you can now extend back one storey up to six metres in depth. If you have a detached house the depth of the extension increases to a maximum of eight metres.

In this kitchen extension in Teddington we created a stunning shaker style kitchen with a really large island that is great for entertaining. There is also an open plan TV area and a formal dining area on a raise connecting room.
Velux windows were added to the roof and large doors to the garden so the space is really bright.
This Georgian house in London Chelsea is grade two listed so we required listed building consent and conservation consent in order to add an extension to the back for the kitchen. The roof structure is formed from laminated glass beams and the minimal design contrasts beautifully with the original Georgian house.

In Putney this modern house has four floors but required additional space for the dining area in the kitchen. We added a three story extension at the back which also created a large en-suite shower room to the master suite on the first floor and a family cinema room in the basement.
If you’d like to have a chat about a home renovation project or an extension please feel free to call or email me.
Best wishes
