Here at Amok we have decided to look to the future a little and hopefully give inspiration to you our clients just in case you are planning a new home design project. This month the focus is on 2020 Interior Design trends and to showcase some recent Amok Interior Design London projects where these concepts have been implemented.
Next month we will look forwards to how these trends are projected to change moving into 2021 and then discuss ways in which to incorporate them.
Calm Tones
Pastel colours are popular right now. Calm backdrops with accent colours added through furniture and accessories is a big Interior Design trend for 2020.
For the sitting room at a recently completed project in Queen’s Park we used Pavilion Grey for the walls from Farrow and Ball paired with the clients dusty pink stools.
This mid tone grey is warm and not too overpowering.
Brass side tables and silk and brass pendant lamps then added a touch of glamour.
Eclectic
Combining traditional detailing with contemporary furniture is also fashionable.
In this Victorian townhouse in Fulham the original staircase and cornices create a pretty backdrop to the contemporary Poliform bed.
Cornforth White from Farrow and Ball was used for the walls in the bedroom; a very calm and earthy grey.
The bespoke wardrobe doors were also painted in Cornforth White and recessed into the walls to give a seamless effect, as though they are also part of the original architecture of the house.
Blue
Apart from the neutral palette blue is also big this year, with Classic Blue being announced as the colour of the year by Pantone.
Hague Blue is also stunning, a dramatic dark blue from Farrow and Ball. De Nimes is also a great blue and is a little softer, also from Farrow and Ball. De Nimes is great for making a statement in a sitting room or a bedroom.
This recently completed kitchen is painted in Hicks Blue from the Little Green Paint Company and accessorised with antique brass fittings and an antiqued mirror detail behind the range cooker.
Hicks blue is stunning and not quite as dark as Hague Blue.
Layering
Layering of patterns or prints creates a really dramatic effect on your home design.
For this entrance hall in Fulham we specified a fabulous geometric patterned carpet from Stark carpets in the sitting room next to the hall.
Then in the hall we used a Bespoke monochrome wall paper beneath the dado rail from Farrow and Ball and another stunning geometric carpet on the stairs from Stark carpets.
Finally, we even papered the ceiling with a 3D effect architectural paper from Osborne and Little to create the real wow factor.
Funky prints
Funky prints are in.
Using fabrics that are sort of matching but not quite side by side looks really vibrant and fun.
In this teenage girls dressing room we upholstered the existing wardrobe doors with a bright floral print and re-upholstered a favourite chair in a fun peacock fabric.
Upcycling
Upcycling is very much a thing and a big home design for 2020.
Transforming an old piece of furniture and giving it a new lease of life is definitely a great idea.
Yet even just extending the life of an old chair by re-upholstering it in a fashionable fabric is in keeping with the spirit.
